Frequently Asked Questions

Q:         What is unique about Consigning Women Fine Furnishings?

A:         Consigning Women is not a thrift store, flea market or garage sale. Consigning Women utilizes a 8,000 sq. ft. showroom to display and sell new and previously owned upscale, quality furnishings and home accessories, all with your convenience in mind.  Our stock comes from the Indianapolis area’s better homes.  We maintain consignor contracts for 90 days resulting in a constant turnover of quality goods promoting high, repeat shopper  traffic.

Q:         What items will Consigning Women accept?

A:         We are interested in any attractive piece that would fit in the home such as:  furniture, framed artwork, area rugs, lamps, and larger home accent items. Consignment preview service may be arranged for your larger home items or you may bring your items directly to our showroom.  We do not accept mattresses, bedding, lawn equipment, electronics, appliances, camping or sports items, pianos or organs, plastic lawn furniture, grills, window treatments, clear glass items or miscellaneous dishes.

Q:         Is there a fee for consigning each item?

A:         Consigning Women charges a one-time $20.00 fee to establish your consignor account.

Q:         What are your consignment procedures?

A:         Daily consignment hours are 10 am to 6 pm on Monday through Friday.  Sunday intake hours are noon to 5 pm.  Please take a picture of the items and mail, email or  drop photos at the store including your name, address and phone number.  From the photos, we can determine items that are popular and that will sell.  We would NOT be able to determine the price of an item until we physically inspect it.  We can provide transportation of your merchandise to our store for a delivery fee.  We mark down consigned items every 30 days.  The consignor retains ownership and title to all articles consigned to Consigning Women Fine Furnishings as outlined in the Consignment Agreement.  Please review our consignment agreement posted on the web site for specific details.

Q:         I only have accessories to consign.  Do I have to take photos of these too?

A:         No.  With accessories and rugs, we need to visually inspect each piece.  Generally it is

easier to bring the items directly to the store.

Q:         Do you buy the items outright?

A:         Yes, if you elect to sell directly to the store rather than consign.

Q:         Do you have any other fees I should be aware of in addition to the variable consign?

A:         No.  We do not charge any buyer, item or reserve fees.

Q:         Who sets the price?

A:         This is important.  Priced too high—the article won’t sell.  Priced too low—it’s unfair to the consignor. Using the information that you supply about items you wish to sell (original cost, history, last cleaning or reupholstering, overall condition) and merging that with our knowledge, we feel that we can obtain for you the best return for your merchandise.

Q:         What percentage will I make selling via Consigning Women Fine Furnishings?

A:         We are partners with you on a 50/50 basis during the first 60 days of your item display time. During days 61-90, the consignor receives 45% of the selling price.

Q:         As a consignor, can I check the status of my account over the phone?

A:         No.  We cannot give information over the phone.  You may come into the store and we will give you a print out of your account.  We can only give the print out to the person listed on the account and we ask for supporting personal identification.  For security and privacy reasons, we are unable to send information about your account to places or numbers not listed on your account.

Q:         What happens if my items don’t sell?

A:         Items that are desirable and priced right do sell.  Should your item not sell within a 90 day exposure in our showroom, you may reclaim your item or elect to donate it to our designated charity. Keep in mind items remain on the floor and are available for sale until you retrieve them.   We prepare the paperwork and arrange delivery verifying your donation to the non-profit agency.  Items not claimed within 5 days will become property of Consigning Women and not be retrievable.
